Kiddy Quote Of The Week: #1

Little kids say the weirdest, cutest, funkiest, most violent, hilarious, spunky, frightening things...

As I have (as my only-child coworker likes to joke) 50 younger siblings and since they do say the darndest things, I thought I'd institute a "Kiddy Quote Of The Week."

If you could see my Facebook page, you would notice that all of my statuses are either about sports...or are quotes from my siblings.  I'll try and post more of those, because they really are entertaining.

For those of you who wonder at my choosing of Thursday for the weekly quote, well, I blame the Q (my place of work), it's a movie theater so the "end" of our week is Thursday.

Anyway, for the FIRST EVER Kiddy Quote of The Week:

(After hearing about a horrible doctor's appointment I endured): "UHHH...I will CUT him...I mean, not THAT badly...and I'll make sure it's not his right hand so he can stitch himself up..."

-Gianna (age 10); Don't worry, she was kidding....mostly!!

Happy Thursday!

Peace!

Loner

Thinking can be detrimental to your health.  Last night, I was up until 2 AM, just thinking.  It can be hard to turn off my brain at times.

Lately, however, I've been thinking about one thing in particular (OK, one of many, MANY things).  "Where do I belong?"  That might seem like a blanket statement that *everyone* feels.  But I'm starting to realize that I am more of a loner than I thought.

Everyone has a group or niche that they belong to.  There's the misfits, the ducklings, the odd people, the "cool" people, the jocks, the nerds, the quiet people, etc, etc, etc.  It's not that these people don't like me or are unwelcoming...it's just, I don't click with any of them.  The worst part is trying to explain this to the people closest to me.  They either don't want to accept that it's true, or they find it hard to understand how it feels.  When people make plans, they don't think to include me, or if they do, I just feel like I'm an outsider invading their space.

Aside from sports, school and work...I don't do anything.  I sit at home and read or watch HIMYM or listen to music or draw.  There's nothing wrong with any of these things, but after awhile, they're just boring and repetitive.  It's not there's something wrong with me, it's just that it can be lonely at times.

Sometimes I worry that this will just be the rest of my life, enjoying all of the action from the sidelines, not really participating.  To be honest, there's no way in heck I could ever hang out with people 24/7, I definitely need my time alone to just recover from life's hecticness.

The funny thing is, I have had some people say, "Your life isn't hard, you're so popular!" or "Can you go talk to her?  It would make her day, she's you as one of the cool, popular people."  I guess it just goes to show how appearances aren't everything.  Because, I, the "cool, popular" girl feels more lonely than a lot of the "nerdy, odd" people do.

I guess I hoped that Senior year would be different.  That I would find a place.  It's hard when your "school" consists of about 300 families ages nursery-12th grade.  But even in work and sports I get the "we like you, but you're not one of us" vibe.

That's just life I guess.  Learning to make the best of any situation you're in.  I haven't perfected this yet, and I doubt I ever will.  For now, I'll just keep smiling and going about my business.  Maybe I won't have a lot of friends, maybe I won't ever have somewhere I belong, either way, I will always have the 1 or 2 friends who will always be there for me, I will always have my family, and I will always have a God Who loves me enough to die for me, in all of my state of imperfection.

Peace!

Decisions, Decisions

"Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted in one moment
Would you capture it or just let it slip?"
-Eminem (Lose Yourself)

Isn't that the question?  On one hand, at first glance, you would automatically say, "everything I ever wanted?? Capture it.  Duh."  But if you think about it...what if you're wrong?  What if everything you ever wanted isn't everything you need?  Shouldn't you just let it slip then?

It's those "one moments" in our lives that make us who we are.  There's the moment I found out I was Diabetic.   The moment I found out I have Celiac.  The moment I found out I had been misleading myself about someone.  The moment I found out I'd been used.  The moment I found out how much God loves me.

There's about a million "moments" that end up being big turning points in the end.  Big or small, these moments and the decisions we make in them ultimately make us the people we are today.

There really isn't a right or wrong answer when it comes to the "capture it or let it go" question.  Either way, that decision will ultimately take us on a journey.  There's about a million different paths available to each individual, the key is discovering which one you want to take.  If you start along one you don't like, there's always an exit ramp to take.

I'm at a point in my life where so many opportunities and options are available to me.  I'm at a pretty big milestone.  Graduation is coming up in about 4 months.  After that, I'll be taking classes and getting involved with Nurses Aid and phlebotomy programs.  There are relationship decisions to be made.  Career choices to be made.  However, while the next year will have a huge impact on the direction I will take the rest of my life, it's not the one with the biggest decisions I will have to make.   Another 4-5 years from now, I will start making decisions about where I will live, where I will work, who I will spend the rest of my life with.  Another 4-5 years from there and I'll be making other decisions.  There will never be a point in time from now on where I won't be making other big decisions.

In all the hub bub about big decisions though, don't forget about the small, every day decisions that we all have to make.

 Anyway, that's my two cents!

Peace!

The Truth About Sunday

We all know what Sundays are supposed to consist of: Church, big ol' brunch, naps, and football.  Notice, the most activity mentioned is the minimal energy required to chew your gobs and gobs of food.

THEREFORE, Sundays could also be called "A day of relaxation and happiness."  Among the aforementioned activities, WORKING OUT OR GOING TO THE Y IS NOT INCLUDED!!!!!!! ......Normally.  But what is in my plans for this afternoon?  I am going to the Y in less than an hour to shoot hoops for about 2 hours.

The very thought of this makes me want to crawl back into my bed and sleep away the horror of such a thing.

Here's the problem:  my basketball team has not done as well as I would like so far this season.  As one of the team captains and as the ONLY Senior, I feel it's my duty to try and improve.  Look, I'm 5'5" and not much to look at.  Talent wise??  Eh, not so great.  But I'm not going to just sit here and let my team of mostly freshmen to just shrivel up and die out there.  Sooo, to the Y I go.

In the meantime, I will continue to sit in front of the TV and cheer on the Ravens and tell myself all of the reasons why I shouldn't go to the Y.  Because, after all, it is a Sunday afternoon...and we all know the truth about Sundays.

Peace!

My Grandparents: The Bennets

My dear world, today, I bring to you my grandparents: The Bennets.

Now, if you have never seen or read Pride and Prejudice and therefore have no idea who Mr. and Mrs. Bennet are...FOR THE LOVE OF LITERACY, YOU UNEDUCATED PEOPLE!!!!  GO TO THE LIBRARY AT ONCE AND RIGHT THIS WRONG!!! (You could also probably try Netflix).

On the other hand, if you DO happen to be a literate, educated person with good taste; you know EXACTLY who Mr. and Mrs. Bennet are and what I am about to say will make sense to you and you will chuckle and be able to see why this is such a problem at times...

You see, the grandparents I am referring to are my mother's parents.  They are truly incredible, caring, wonderful, holy, magnificent, etc people....however, they also tend to be a WEE bit....meddlesome.

Their latest project?  Me....and my love life.  They have the greatest plans for me.  One of my grandfather's alter boys has caught their eye as a potential suitor for me.  You see, now they know that my call in life does not appear to be either the religious or single life--their mission is to find a good, Christian boy for me.  (Because, dontcha know, I'm nearly 18 and my biological clock is clearly ticking away).  They already have plans to have my family and this wonderful alter boy's family over for brunch sometime.  Oh...did I mention?  This stupendous young man who would just be a WONDERFUL option for me...yeah, ummm...I know him.  Well, not well, in fact, I'm not sure if he remembers me.  However, I did meet him once before and I'm not exactly sure my grandparents and I have seen the same side of him.  I met him at a bonfire where he tried to convince me that we have a "connection" because...OH, did I forget to mention one more thing????  What is this young man's name?  Alex.  So, of COURSE, it's meant to be, right?  RIGHT.  Well, I'm not so sure I'm sold on this whole "Alex-Alex" thing, or the entire idea of having my grandparents as my matchmakers.  Oh well, might as well continue humoring them.  If nothing else, Alex seems like the kind of guy who would be fun to hang out with AS FRIENDS now and again.

As awkward as this whole situation is at times, I'm sure some day I'll look back on it and laugh....maybe even tell my kids, "Yeah, great-grandma and grandpa Lennon tried to set me up with this guy once...THAT was interesting..."
Maybe it'll be like in "How I Met Your Mother" and this is just one episode along the way.

I hope you all know that this post really does make me laugh and is in jest and I HIGHLY doubt that my well-meaning Grandparents plans will pan out.

Anyway, the best of luck to all of you and your romantic lives...may you never end up in this same position!

Peace!!

Two Things...

Two things:

1) What does one do when your phone refuses to charge and you have to wait until March 2014 for an upgrade??

2) I don't care, but the OCD side of me refused to end the year with only 24 posts....it's an awful number, 25 is SO much better.

3)  3 is
-1 more than 2
-The number of months before I turn 18
-One of my favorite numbers
-Not 2, hence making the title of this post WRONG
-And half of an 8

PEACE!!!

'Twas The Night Before New Years

'Twas the night before New Years
And there I was sitting
All by myself, with not one of my peers
My parents were doing, what parents all do
To ring in the New Year
Surrounded by people and wine and good beer
They party all night, but never too hard, so don't you dare fear
But here I am sitting,
It's New Years once more,
And I will be honest,
It's always a bore.

I'm sorry, there is my pathetic attempt at poetry.  But there's no better way to say I am NOT a fan of New Years Eve...it's an over romanticized notion surrounded in ridiculous "resolutions" and drowning in alcohol.

I have nothing against resolutions, but why do people decide "New Year, New Me!" when in all reality, in two weeks, you'll forget about them anyway.  Why do you have to wait until the beginning of the year to make resolutions?  If there are changes that need to be made, why do you have to wait until the beginning of the year?????  I mean, honestly.  That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard of.

Also, who the heck came up with the entire idea of a "kiss at midnight"??  If you have someone you care about, why is it SOOOO important to have that *super important* first kiss of the year??  Euughh.  Ridonkulous.

To those who go to Times Square to be drink way too much and be surrounded by complete strangers: WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!?! THAT IS NOT FUN!!! That is boring.  And cold.

What will I be doing tonight?  * Sniff * Well, I will probably be parked on my couch with my single self, watching How I Met Your Mother and when the ball drops??  I will slowly sip my delicious champagne and give my favorite baby brother a lil smooch on the cheek.

The rest of you can have your beer and your parties and your boyfriends and girlfriends and your midnight kisses...

To those who call me bitter?  Definitely not.  I just find this particular holiday a little ridiculous.

Cheers and Happy New Year!

Peace Out 2012!!!

Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda

What I Should Be Doing:
-AP Calculus Homework
-Laundry
-Cleaning
-Working Out

What I Want To Be Doing:
-Take my dog for a walk in the snow
-Read a book
-Hang out with friends I haven't seen in awhile
-Watch TV

What I Am Actually Doing:
-Nothing(ish)
-Getting a back massage
-Eating cottage cheese
-Messing around on the internet

Moral of the story?  There is none, other than:
1) I am lazy
2) If we don't get up and DO what we want or what we should be doing...nothing will happen.
3) My dog most likely will disown me for being a terrible owner
4) My laundry is becoming Mt. Everest II
5) Snow is beautiful
6) Cottage Cheese (with some help) is fabulous
7) Baby, it's cold outside
8) How I Met Your Mother is an entertaining (if slightly inappropriate) TV show
9) I have fabulous hair
10)  The price of tea in China is: ¥ 6.98

I don't know how some of those morals can be gathered from my earlier lists, but I guess it's just in between the lines.

Have a wonderful Friday!

Peace!

SDFKJHKASDHKJH!!!!!!

Maybe I'm coming across a little desperate but, well, I AM!!!!

I love my family.  Love my house.  Love lazing around.  But there comes a point when you reach your limit, where you just need to GET OUT FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!!!  I mean,  the only time I've left my house in the past 48 hours was to go see Les Mis (which, by the way, was one of the most incredible movies I've ever seen in my entire life!!!!!!) and that was with my family.  I literally am getting that panicked, closed-in feeling which makes me highly irritable and high-strung.  I've tried to leave the house on several occasions but was told I can't because of the snow storm!

And of course, since I'm "sitting around the house doing nothing" I might as well clean...EVERYTHING!!!  Literally, the only time I have walked outside was to bring the trash to the trashcan which is right outside the door.

Right now, as I sit, attempting to do my AP Calculus, I am approaching a mental break down.  In a few hours, I'll do what I ALWAYS do to preserve my sanity: take a long, quiet, peaceful walk up and down my road until I can't stand the cold any more!

....Wow...even just THINKING about going for a walk is already starting to calm me down.

Well, I guess I should go work on my Calculus so that I actually stand a chance of being able to go for a walk.

This has been quite an interesting day, that's for sure.

Anywho, I'm off.  Ta ta for now!

Peace!!

Nonbreaks

I'm FINALLY done with school for last semester!! It's such a relief, to be honest.
And now I'm treating myself to a break, I'm enjoying a back massage (THANK YOU SHIATSU!!! BEST PRESENT EVER!!! AND IT'S NOT EVEN MINE!) and not doing anything productive.

In about 5 more minutes though, my break has to end.  I will go up to my room and "clean" it.  The hard part is that Bella and Gabry, who I share with, are both gone at the moment so I'm really not sure how productive I'll ACTUALLY be.

After that, it's time to start the AP Calculus homework I have to do over break...

WHY DO THEY CALL IT BREAK WHEN IT'S NOT ACTUALLY A BREAK?!?!?!  This is a mind-boggling conundrum that I doubt will ever be solved.

If anyone out there would like to save me from myself, I would appreciate it if someone "kidnapped" me for the day and took me off to do something fun...because this break has been more of a non-break, and I'm not sure how much longer I can survive this kind of thing!

Anyway, there are things I need to attend to.  Enjoy your break for me, please and thank you!

Peace!
