The Trouble With Social Media and Not Thinking

You see, I often say things or phrase things in such a way that often confuse and worry and cause people respond in a dramatic manner.  When dealing with social media...this can be an issue.

Today I happened to post a status about "being at the hospital for 3 hours and counting."  There's a really harmless, "no worries" explanation.  Being a Diabetic/Celiac, I am at UofM hospital at least 4 times a year, so when I think "Hospital" I think: "Doctor's appointment." Well, considering my diseases, tumors, random other issues, other people think "hospital" and go "HOLY CRAP SHE'S DYING FOR REAL THIS TIME!!!"

You would not believe the number of phone calls, texts and comments on my status I received, the whole time thinking, "Umm this is normal...?" And of course after explaining a gajillion times that "Yes, I'm fine. No, there's no problem. Yes, this is my NORMAL life." of course, my grandmother comments asking if I'm alright.  So, for the gajillion and oneth time, I explained, yet again.

Anyway, I swear, this really is going to be an issue some day.  I might say something I actually and truthfully regret.  Not to mention the way word spreads after seeing one little thing on some sort of public forum.  Before you know it, I'll be dead and in my grave without even realizing it!  I don't mind as long as I get to go to my funeral and maybe get to give my own eulogy...would that be too much of a problem??

In all seriousness, I probably should take more care before I randomly blurt out my thoughts or anything like that where it could be seen...on second thought, what do I do on here?!  I say things I maybe shouldn't and sometimes don't even mean.  Ah, oh well.  That just got too deep.  I just wanted to share with the world a taste of my stupidity and goofy life.

But, as it were, I am exhausted and have nothing more to contribute!

   Peace!

Being A Senior...

It would be so much easier if there was a bolt of lighting or writing on the wall, like in the bible.  There's so many decisions that have to be made!
  • Where do I go to college?
  • How will I pay for it?
  • Do I stay on campus/get an apartment/stay at home?
  • Do I work during college?
  • Meal plan or no?
  • Major?
  • How/when will I need to apply for nursing school?
  • What requirements are necessary to be accepted?
  • What scholarships do I need to apply for?
  • WHAT IS GOD'S WILL FOR ME AND MY LIFE?
It's more than a little daunting to say the least.  There's so much to be done, it's so stressful!
At this time in life, you start to doubt, question and wonder at everything you know, everything you believe. You start to question WHO YOU ARE and what your motives are.  There's so many time where I find myself fighting myself.  What is right?  What is wrong?

Deep down, I know that everything at the core of my beliefs is right.  I have good idea about who I am as a person, student and where my future is generally headed.  What I don't know is how what I want and what God wants line up.  I need to stop worrying and just allow God to take complete control of this situation.

I've reached the point we all reach, I'm sure.  I'm so ready for independence, to move out, begin making my own life choices.  I'm so finished with high school.  It's not that there's anything particularly bad about high school or my family...it's just time to begin the rest of my life.

I've been so restless this past school year.  So worn out.

All this in mind, I'm also worried about the future.  How will I pay for college?  Will I meet good people?  What will my college experience be like?

Enough worry.  I'm so exhausted and mentally and physically drained.  It's off to bed for me.

Peace!

My Family: The Freaking Luckiest, Most Talented, Attractive People You Will Ever Meet

First of all, it's official...I have THE CUTEST baby brother in the world!!!!! OK, so he's TECHNICALLY not a baby, he's more than a year old and he just walked across the living room by himself today...granted he had just had a ton of chocolate...no inspiration like chocolate, right?
Today I had to babysit him for a little while and he got into my little sister's stocking...let's just say I'm shocked he hasn't succumbed to a sugar coma yet! Oi vey!

Lucia, oh my goodness, that child.  She cracks me up.  The things she says at 3 years old...I don't know where she gets them! Today, after church, she was thirsty so, being the incredibly helpful big sister that I am, I helped her get water at the drinking fountain.  About 10 minutes later, she marches up to my mom and I and pulls the neck of her coat down to reveal a small water mark on her t-shirt.
"MAMA! Look! I have CITY WATER on my SHIRT!" Here she turned and pointed at me, "Because YOU did it!" And she marched indignantly away. City water??? OK, kiddo! See if I help you get water again! Just thinking about that kid makes me smile.

When it comes to intense bursts of energy, Sofia really does take the cake.  She burst into the house after her tutoring today and just starts going off a mile a minute about God only knows what, her prize (APAPER,STYROFOAM,ANDSTICKCHRISTMASTREE!!!!BUTTHEYHADTOUSEBLACKPAPERFORSOMEOFITBECAUSETHEYWEREOUTOFBROWN!!!!)
I honestly have quite the time trying to figure out what she's saying most of the time.  I guess it doesn't really matter if I do or not because that ball of energy is happy enough if you appear vaguely interested, ask a few questions here and there and are completely astounded by her amazingness. She's the type of kid who literally pulled out her other front tooth simply so she could sing "All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth."

Though I'd never admit it, I'm vaguely jealous of Gianna.  I mean, at the end of the day, I'd rather be me and sometimes she annoys the crud out of me. But she's 10 years old, already an intense gymnast whose coach is filming her demonstrate some skill or another and sending it to another coach in Arizona.  She has intense conditioning/skill-building several times a week and I can see her and all her drive and energy and talent going places some day.  Oh, and I forgot to mention, she's a freaking whiz at school!!! "Some people just walk in the light, you know?" (She's The Man). Couldn't say it better myself!

Francesca....what words to describe Francesca?  She's your typical 13-year-old...trying to figure out where she fits, not quite one of the "big-kids" but DEFINITELY not one of the younger kids.  She's got the popularity and athleticism that draws people to her.  Honestly, I personally don't remember having friends everywhere I turned in middle school! Actually though....I think I only had one real friend in middle school...by choice! Also, I don't know what it is with middle-schoolers now...but I swear she has at least 4 guys who are just drooling all over her. Two even got in a fight over her the other day...that's just how it is with my sisters I guess though.

Isabella. She's everything the name implies.  She's got a good 2 inches on me even though she's a solid 2 years and 2 months younger than me.  She's got a lot of prospects as a future killer middle hitter for volleyball.  She's tall, long limb-ed..granted, she's gangly, but she'll grow into herself eventually.  School doesn't come easily to her, in fact, right now she's off taking a Geometry final that she has no confidence of doing well on.  But she is one of the most creative, imaginative, witty, fun people I have ever met.  She's so stunning in both personality and appearance.  She hasn't even fully bloomed yet and you can tell, just by looking at her that once she grows into her long arms and legs, loses the braces and gains the confidence that age aids...she's going to awe the world.

Gabriella. Well, Gabrielle, really...but I'll call her whatever I want.  She IS my big sister after all.  She's two years older than me and may very well be the luckiest person I have ever met.  Just the other day, she and her friends BY CHANCE ran into an NBA player, scored tickets to a game vs. the KNICKS and are now in communication with a PRO BALLER. For a sports-major, this is like heaven.  For me, this is misery.  I love basketball. Gabs?? Mehh. She doesn't really care either way.  So here I am, dying as I hear of her luck in this AND the free tickets she scored to some AHL games (2 this week alone).  Gabry might even be going to Ireland Fall semester 2013 for an internship. Not to mention she's graduating this spring (2 years early I might add!) just because she can.  She certainly walks in the light.  And though I pretend to not sometimes, I love her so much.  I don't think any girl should go without a big sister...and I'm glad I have her!

My parents. Wow.  Words cannot describe.  My dad is the most hard-working man I have ever met.  He's also the most family-oriented.  The things he does for us because he loves us floors me.  Daddy's girl? Yeah, I guess I am.  But how could I not be? He's always looking out for us and is a perfect example of what a father should be. Not to mention the example he sets for us by how he treats my mom.  They've been married for 20 years now and she's still "My bride" to him.  It's incredible. Yeah, when he gets mad, I'd like to pull an ostrich and stick my head in the ground, but nobody's perfect!
And my MOM!  She home schools 4 of the 5 of us who are in primary or secondary education.  Sofia is a special case, as I've said and is tutored.  My mom also helps run a lot of the local home school church sports team program that half of us are in, drives the rest to their separate sports/activities and finds the time to work out daily, including preparing for a marathon! She also (after 8 children) weighs less than she did at her wedding. My parents...I should thank God for them every second!

Me...well...eh, I'm not that interesting!! So just sit back in awe of the rest of my family and forget about me for now.

Peace!!

Words, words, words!

"Words! Words! Words! I'm so sick of words!
I get words all day through." -Eliza DooLittle (My Fair Lady)

Ah, my dear Eliza, I couldn't have put it better myself.

Honestly! WORDS! THEY NEVER STOP! They're EVERYWHERE!!!

Unfortunately, I'm having a problem with words as of late.  I swear, it's the oddest thing!  I try to talk, explain something, etc, etc...and...I-I can't talk! It's like they're gone! No, I guess that's a lie. I can talk just fine.  In fact, it's getting me to shut up that's the real problem.  My problem is that I can't seem to utilize words in the correct way in order to express myself.  I might as well be speaking Ancient Shona (One of the three native languages of Zimbabwe)!!!!!!!!!

It brings back all of my RAH RAH RAH moments (see Blogpost from April 2012).  Seriously though! When no one speaks native Shona, you don't want to be speaking Shona!!! (No offense to any persons of Zimbabwe intended, of course!)

Anywho, it can be INCREDIBLY frustrating to not be able to express your thoughts, feelings and opinions. It's about as irritating as being strapped into a straight jacket...not that I would know what that's like of course...Ahem.

* SIIIIIGGGHHHH *

ANYway, I'm sure I'll get over this bizarre and inexplicable experience soon enough...I HOPE!!!!

AHHH!! RAH JSHFKJHSAKJLHFLKSJAHDH!!!!

Ahem.

Anyway.

Peace!

'Tis The Season

'Tis the season for snow and turkey and presents and fattening food and mistletoe and family and rest.

'Tis the season for a renewal of faith, to allow Jesus to be born again in your heart.

'Tis the season for peace and joy and happiness.

'Tis the season for attack.

Now I'm not referring to physical attacks with guns and knives and swords and violence.  But this is worse.  Much, much worse.  This is Spiritual Attack.  You see, this season, this beautiful, beautiful season is ideal for renewing your faith, absorbing peace and becoming more joyful.  As you might imagine, Satan does not appreciate this.  He will do whatever it takes to bring you down and keep your joy and peace from you.

For some of us, it might be stress and shopping. For others, it might be finals.  For others, he might shake up your relationships.  For others, he might attack self-image.  For others, he might do several of the above.  Unfortunately, he knows our secret fears and innermost hurts.  He knows exactly which barb to stick into your heart.

Recently, I have experienced his attack on me and my life and witnessed his attack on those dearest to me.  It can be SO hard to stay strong and fight him, especially if you are feeling weak to start with.

Remember, "You can do all thing's through Christ who strengthens you."  You don't have to defend against the attack alone...in fact, you can't.  As humans, we don't have what it takes to go it by ourselves.  Trust in God.  Get lots of sleep.  Pray often.

'Tis the season of prayer and peace.

'Tis the season of love.

Peace!

To Do or Not To Do?

When it comes to "To Do" Lists, I am THE QUEEN.  I have TO DO lists for EVERYTHING. Sometimes I get a little psycho on them and almost die from heart failure.

For instance: This weekend, looking at my TO DO list is enough to give you an ANEURISM. I kid you not. It's intense.  Between scholarships, meeting with College Counselors, homework, sports, cleaning (because it's a "slow week" dontcha know), organizing, monitoring my health, managing money affairs, working and trying to catch up on homework (My volleyball team went to Home School Nationals last week!!! 1st in Bronze 2!!!!)....welll...well.

My biggest problem is: while I'm THE QUEEN of making TO DO lists...completing them is an entirely different matter.  Anyone can MAKE TO DO lists.  In fact, I probably spend much of my time doing nothing but that.

Well, I guess God puts these thins upon us in order to urge us to lean on Him...because believe you me...NO WAY am I going to be able to do this on my own!

As important as it is for me to get what needs to get done done...my sanity is also pretty key.  Sometimes you have to take mandatory breaks.  Tonight, I'm going to go to the Y of my own accord to play some basketball, Saturday I'm really hoping for a girls' night! (Yes, every night is pretty much "girls' night" when you have as many sisters as I have, but this one will consist of me and my friends!)

Sometimes I sit here thinking "Dear God....can Senior Year be over already?!?!?!" (Don't worry, only 6 months and 5 days til Graduation!!!!...not that I'm counting or anything.....) And other times I think, "Dear God....don't let it end!!!"

Thankfully, I'm jacked up on a mega cup of coffee right now (hazelnut and cinnamon!!! YUMM!!!) and went to church this morning, so I'm on all sorts of Spiritual, Physical and Emotional highs right now!  Regardless, even if I do spontaneously combust from pure stress and lack of ability to continue living...

To quote Billy Currington:

"God is great. *Beer is good. And people are crazy."

Well, as this post makes apparent, I've chosen to not TO DO for the moment.  Now to return to the real world and TO DOing...

Peace!

*No worries, I ain't never drunk beer in ma life, nor will I ever (Celiac Disease o.O)....though I've heard great things...

The Woes of ADD and Procrastination

OK, I'll be honest, I'm not actually ADD...not even close, really, though sometimes I do wonder.

I'm also,  not actually a very good procrastinator.  I'm one of those obnoxious people who has their homework done before the weekend, starts projects in advance, blah blah blah.

I don't know what it is...but lately, I can't focus enough to sit down and do a 10 minute ANYTHING without getting distracted!

And last night...ah, my, my, my, last night.  I got approximately 5 hours of sleep.  You see, I had a volleyball game (don't worry, we won...actually, we swept them in three games and looked pretty dang good, and that wasn't even us at our best WOOT!!! [<--see??? ADD!!!!]) Anyway, because we swept them, Coach treated us to ice cream (Pralines and Cream!! YUMMMM!!!) We had a later game (7:30) so of course we played till about 9:30, didn't start heading home from ice cream till about 10:30 and so, at about 11pm I staggered into my house smelling vaguely like a sewer.  I couldn't shower and go to bed though, I had about 20-30 math corrections to cover (due this morning, 8am).  My teacher hadn't responded to me til I was in the middle of my game...well, what's a girl to do? Plop down at the counter and do corrections until 1/1:30? Why yes, yes indeed.  So there I was 1:30am smelling...well, I won't go there.  I finally crawled upstairs, washed up and crawled into bed.  Unfortunately, I was so tired I slept through my 6:30am wake-up warning.  So I slept in till about 7, I'm supposed to leave at 7:30, but my alarm clock is also slow, so I finally ran out the door at about 7:40 and got to class ten minutes later.

Happy ending, however, this week: we get to skip one section of the homework, the test is OPEN BOOK and we're actually SUPPOSED to take it with each other, this is a major win for me at this point.

My day has slowly progressed from "OHHHH WHYYYY??!?!?!?! WHYYY MEEE?!?!?!" to "Eh, not bad, not bad." And since my dad will be home soon (after being gone for a week), it'll get even BETTER!! I'll be going to get some coffee pretty soon which is just gonna make me go through the roof!!!!

I decided I would let my ADD speak for itself through this post.  Case closed.

On a more somber note, at 3pm a sweet, brave, beautiful 12 year old girl who goes to my church who has been fighting cancer for the past 3 years is being taken off of life support.  Please pray for this strong, young girl who has suffered so much as she goes to meet God today. </3  Please keep her family and close friends in your prayers as well as they say goodbye.

Peace.

Nothing Like October

Wonder of wonders--IT'S OCTOBER!!!

Time really does fly, for some reason, today I decided to think about WHERE I was last year.  Well, October 2, 2011 was a Sunday and my calendar says I was working...

Other than that...I HAVE NO IDEA!!! I guess it doesn't really matter what I was doing.  Truth be told, it most likely wasn't very interesting.

I'm assuming it was an October just like any other October...like this October for instance.

1) Sports--SportsSportsSportsSports, SPORTS!!! NOTHING BUT SPORTS!!!
2) Homework--of course...where would October be without school (for the record, I have no idea, but I'm sure I would have no complaints!)
3) Injuries--With sports, come injuries, I mean, REALLY, you need to be reasonable now!
4) Settling in--At this point of the year, everyone's settling in, gritting their teeth and trying to survive the next two and a half months until Christmas Break.
5) Chill and frost--May I just say...Ann Arbor...in October....is CHILLY! I literally have not stopped shaking all day! ...although the fact that I'm coming down with something should not be ignored.
6) Beauty--October is quite possibly one of my favorite months in terms of beauty.  The leaves, the trees, the air, the sky....it's breathtaking. If you've never been to Michigan in October, make plans to do so ASAP!

Annnnd so on and so forth.

This year is a little different for me, however, adding on to the mayhem are scholarships (see previous post, I apologize for my tendency to whine!), Nationals (see future post), deciding on Senior Pictures and a puppy among other things which I'd really rather not disclose with the general public!

A new puppy adds a layer of exhaustion, joy and pain.

Exhaustion--have you ever owned a puppy before?? I am almost positive those hyper-active little bundles of energy NEVER.SLEEP!!!! I don't know how he does it, but I'd like to know his secrets....
Joy--Again I will ask, have you ever  owned a puppy before??  They can be so sweet and cuddly and they never cease to bring a smile to your face (wellllll, almost never!)
Pain--AGAIN I will ask--no, no I'll spare you!  Between teething, long puppy nails, accidents, barking and late nights...yes, yes there is pain. But I do have to say, it is worth it.

Now, as they say, I have bigger fish to fry (namely--A Chemistry study guide to make and a PILE of time-consuming AP Calculus.)

Til another day!

Peace.

scholarships, Scholarships, SCHOLARSHIPS!!

My life:

-Stressful
-Exciting
-Noisy
-Irritating
-Overwhelming
-Ridiculous

Oh...oh my, look what that spells! COMPLETELY coincidental, I assure you. ;)

Don't get me wrong, life could be much, much, much, much, much...ok, MUCHMUCH worse.  Truth be told, I have it about 10x's better than most of my fellow seniors.  However, I MUST SAY, the endless searching for Scholarships (most of which I don't qualify for because I'm not from this or that county or don't go to this or that school).

I just spent all morning (well, after I spent a good hour or two emailing math problems to my poor teacher) either searching for scholarships or attempting to print them.  I say attempting because, wonder of wonders, our internet decided to go all spazzy so our wireless printer is now out of service.  When you're as technologically impaired as I am...this is a disaster.

As you can tell, I decided to take a break, vent in a relatively safe way and as soon as I'm done, LUNCH TIME!!!!

Really, there's no point pushing the envelope when you're already in deep enough trouble.

Well, it can only get better, right?

Peace.

Senioritis

Senior year...since freshman year I have fallen into the trap ALL high school students fall into.

Everyone is under the false impression that senior year is the pinnacle of high school awesomeness.  Well, it's all a lie.  Granted, I do have a SOMEWHAT lighter load of school work...but then I'm taking Honors Chemistry and AP Calculus...I don't really see that as much of a break.  On top of that, I have the added stress of college applications and scholarships.  Society is trying (and succeeding) to convince us that in order to succeed in life, we have to go to the RIGHT college and keep myself out of debt and get the RIGHT job, etc, etc, etc. It's endless pain.

On top of THAT, there's sports.  Senior year, should be a great last season of volleyball for me, right?? No. Wrong.  I find out that I rank probably about 7 or 8 (on a team of 8 people) in terms of hitters.  I find out that the underclassman rate over me and that even our setters and libero are better.  So scratch that idea.  Basketball season will be better, right?  Probably not. 5'5" isn't ideal height for a 4 or 5 (my position).  So I'm preparing for another rough season there.

In addition, you're old enough to work, chauffeur your siblings/neighborhood around, you're old enough to be expected to act like an adult..but then, at the same time, you're too young, so you're treated like a child.

Sorry to come across as whiny or inconsiderate or vindictive...but let's be honest here, the idea that senior year is amazing? Concocted by those who are perfect at almost everything they do and breeze through senior year like nobody's business.

In all honesty, I am completely FED UP with senior year...three weeks in, yes.

And in case you were wondering, it is indeed less than 8 months 'till graduation and I know this because I started my count down a few weeks ago.

I'm confident I won't be such a downer in the future, but for today? I'm tired, sore and completely out of sorts.

It can only get better though, right?

Peace Out.
