To Do or Not To Do?

When it comes to "To Do" Lists, I am THE QUEEN.  I have TO DO lists for EVERYTHING. Sometimes I get a little psycho on them and almost die from heart failure.

For instance: This weekend, looking at my TO DO list is enough to give you an ANEURISM. I kid you not. It's intense.  Between scholarships, meeting with College Counselors, homework, sports, cleaning (because it's a "slow week" dontcha know), organizing, monitoring my health, managing money affairs, working and trying to catch up on homework (My volleyball team went to Home School Nationals last week!!! 1st in Bronze 2!!!!)....welll...well.

My biggest problem is: while I'm THE QUEEN of making TO DO lists...completing them is an entirely different matter.  Anyone can MAKE TO DO lists.  In fact, I probably spend much of my time doing nothing but that.

Well, I guess God puts these thins upon us in order to urge us to lean on Him...because believe you me...NO WAY am I going to be able to do this on my own!

As important as it is for me to get what needs to get done done...my sanity is also pretty key.  Sometimes you have to take mandatory breaks.  Tonight, I'm going to go to the Y of my own accord to play some basketball, Saturday I'm really hoping for a girls' night! (Yes, every night is pretty much "girls' night" when you have as many sisters as I have, but this one will consist of me and my friends!)

Sometimes I sit here thinking "Dear God....can Senior Year be over already?!?!?!" (Don't worry, only 6 months and 5 days til Graduation!!!!...not that I'm counting or anything.....) And other times I think, "Dear God....don't let it end!!!"

Thankfully, I'm jacked up on a mega cup of coffee right now (hazelnut and cinnamon!!! YUMM!!!) and went to church this morning, so I'm on all sorts of Spiritual, Physical and Emotional highs right now!  Regardless, even if I do spontaneously combust from pure stress and lack of ability to continue living...

To quote Billy Currington:

"God is great. *Beer is good. And people are crazy."

Well, as this post makes apparent, I've chosen to not TO DO for the moment.  Now to return to the real world and TO DOing...

Peace!

*No worries, I ain't never drunk beer in ma life, nor will I ever (Celiac Disease o.O)....though I've heard great things...

The Woes of ADD and Procrastination

OK, I'll be honest, I'm not actually ADD...not even close, really, though sometimes I do wonder.

I'm also,  not actually a very good procrastinator.  I'm one of those obnoxious people who has their homework done before the weekend, starts projects in advance, blah blah blah.

I don't know what it is...but lately, I can't focus enough to sit down and do a 10 minute ANYTHING without getting distracted!

And last night...ah, my, my, my, last night.  I got approximately 5 hours of sleep.  You see, I had a volleyball game (don't worry, we won...actually, we swept them in three games and looked pretty dang good, and that wasn't even us at our best WOOT!!! [<--see??? ADD!!!!]) Anyway, because we swept them, Coach treated us to ice cream (Pralines and Cream!! YUMMMM!!!) We had a later game (7:30) so of course we played till about 9:30, didn't start heading home from ice cream till about 10:30 and so, at about 11pm I staggered into my house smelling vaguely like a sewer.  I couldn't shower and go to bed though, I had about 20-30 math corrections to cover (due this morning, 8am).  My teacher hadn't responded to me til I was in the middle of my game...well, what's a girl to do? Plop down at the counter and do corrections until 1/1:30? Why yes, yes indeed.  So there I was 1:30am smelling...well, I won't go there.  I finally crawled upstairs, washed up and crawled into bed.  Unfortunately, I was so tired I slept through my 6:30am wake-up warning.  So I slept in till about 7, I'm supposed to leave at 7:30, but my alarm clock is also slow, so I finally ran out the door at about 7:40 and got to class ten minutes later.

Happy ending, however, this week: we get to skip one section of the homework, the test is OPEN BOOK and we're actually SUPPOSED to take it with each other, this is a major win for me at this point.

My day has slowly progressed from "OHHHH WHYYYY??!?!?!?! WHYYY MEEE?!?!?!" to "Eh, not bad, not bad." And since my dad will be home soon (after being gone for a week), it'll get even BETTER!! I'll be going to get some coffee pretty soon which is just gonna make me go through the roof!!!!

I decided I would let my ADD speak for itself through this post.  Case closed.

On a more somber note, at 3pm a sweet, brave, beautiful 12 year old girl who goes to my church who has been fighting cancer for the past 3 years is being taken off of life support.  Please pray for this strong, young girl who has suffered so much as she goes to meet God today. </3  Please keep her family and close friends in your prayers as well as they say goodbye.

Peace.

Nothing Like October

Wonder of wonders--IT'S OCTOBER!!!

Time really does fly, for some reason, today I decided to think about WHERE I was last year.  Well, October 2, 2011 was a Sunday and my calendar says I was working...

Other than that...I HAVE NO IDEA!!! I guess it doesn't really matter what I was doing.  Truth be told, it most likely wasn't very interesting.

I'm assuming it was an October just like any other October...like this October for instance.

1) Sports--SportsSportsSportsSports, SPORTS!!! NOTHING BUT SPORTS!!!
2) Homework--of course...where would October be without school (for the record, I have no idea, but I'm sure I would have no complaints!)
3) Injuries--With sports, come injuries, I mean, REALLY, you need to be reasonable now!
4) Settling in--At this point of the year, everyone's settling in, gritting their teeth and trying to survive the next two and a half months until Christmas Break.
5) Chill and frost--May I just say...Ann Arbor...in October....is CHILLY! I literally have not stopped shaking all day! ...although the fact that I'm coming down with something should not be ignored.
6) Beauty--October is quite possibly one of my favorite months in terms of beauty.  The leaves, the trees, the air, the sky....it's breathtaking. If you've never been to Michigan in October, make plans to do so ASAP!

Annnnd so on and so forth.

This year is a little different for me, however, adding on to the mayhem are scholarships (see previous post, I apologize for my tendency to whine!), Nationals (see future post), deciding on Senior Pictures and a puppy among other things which I'd really rather not disclose with the general public!

A new puppy adds a layer of exhaustion, joy and pain.

Exhaustion--have you ever owned a puppy before?? I am almost positive those hyper-active little bundles of energy NEVER.SLEEP!!!! I don't know how he does it, but I'd like to know his secrets....
Joy--Again I will ask, have you ever  owned a puppy before??  They can be so sweet and cuddly and they never cease to bring a smile to your face (wellllll, almost never!)
Pain--AGAIN I will ask--no, no I'll spare you!  Between teething, long puppy nails, accidents, barking and late nights...yes, yes there is pain. But I do have to say, it is worth it.

Now, as they say, I have bigger fish to fry (namely--A Chemistry study guide to make and a PILE of time-consuming AP Calculus.)

Til another day!

Peace.

scholarships, Scholarships, SCHOLARSHIPS!!

My life:

-Stressful
-Exciting
-Noisy
-Irritating
-Overwhelming
-Ridiculous

Oh...oh my, look what that spells! COMPLETELY coincidental, I assure you. ;)

Don't get me wrong, life could be much, much, much, much, much...ok, MUCHMUCH worse.  Truth be told, I have it about 10x's better than most of my fellow seniors.  However, I MUST SAY, the endless searching for Scholarships (most of which I don't qualify for because I'm not from this or that county or don't go to this or that school).

I just spent all morning (well, after I spent a good hour or two emailing math problems to my poor teacher) either searching for scholarships or attempting to print them.  I say attempting because, wonder of wonders, our internet decided to go all spazzy so our wireless printer is now out of service.  When you're as technologically impaired as I am...this is a disaster.

As you can tell, I decided to take a break, vent in a relatively safe way and as soon as I'm done, LUNCH TIME!!!!

Really, there's no point pushing the envelope when you're already in deep enough trouble.

Well, it can only get better, right?

Peace.

Senioritis

Senior year...since freshman year I have fallen into the trap ALL high school students fall into.

Everyone is under the false impression that senior year is the pinnacle of high school awesomeness.  Well, it's all a lie.  Granted, I do have a SOMEWHAT lighter load of school work...but then I'm taking Honors Chemistry and AP Calculus...I don't really see that as much of a break.  On top of that, I have the added stress of college applications and scholarships.  Society is trying (and succeeding) to convince us that in order to succeed in life, we have to go to the RIGHT college and keep myself out of debt and get the RIGHT job, etc, etc, etc. It's endless pain.

On top of THAT, there's sports.  Senior year, should be a great last season of volleyball for me, right?? No. Wrong.  I find out that I rank probably about 7 or 8 (on a team of 8 people) in terms of hitters.  I find out that the underclassman rate over me and that even our setters and libero are better.  So scratch that idea.  Basketball season will be better, right?  Probably not. 5'5" isn't ideal height for a 4 or 5 (my position).  So I'm preparing for another rough season there.

In addition, you're old enough to work, chauffeur your siblings/neighborhood around, you're old enough to be expected to act like an adult..but then, at the same time, you're too young, so you're treated like a child.

Sorry to come across as whiny or inconsiderate or vindictive...but let's be honest here, the idea that senior year is amazing? Concocted by those who are perfect at almost everything they do and breeze through senior year like nobody's business.

In all honesty, I am completely FED UP with senior year...three weeks in, yes.

And in case you were wondering, it is indeed less than 8 months 'till graduation and I know this because I started my count down a few weeks ago.

I'm confident I won't be such a downer in the future, but for today? I'm tired, sore and completely out of sorts.

It can only get better though, right?

Peace Out.

SuperMomma

True story, non-believers.  MOM'S ARE SUPERHEROES!  They may pretend to be hard-working, boring and all that nonsense...but in reality, THEY'RE MORE THAN JUST THAT!  You see, the attractive, female half of your parental unit is quite brilliant in her cover.  But let me share a few of the secrets mothers try so hard to hide.

SUPER SONIC HEARING: Ever wondered how your mother hears you grumbling and whining and winging from all the way across the room?  THIS IS WHY!!!!  Every single murmur of discontent which was SUPPOSED to go undetected?  Don't release your feelings in such a manner any more.

SELECTIVE HEARING: "Mom...Mom!....MOOOOM!!!!!!............Mrs. [Insert Your Last Name Here]!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!......[Insert Her First Name Here]!!!!!!!!!!" "What?!" Yeah, that's happened to all of us at one point or another and you know it.  This keeps your mother from being annoyed and irritated by all the unimportant things you have to say.  They mentally and SUBCONSCIOUSLY block you out when they don't care!!!!!

HYBRID SUPER X-RAY VISION: You know how you can be in the kitchen sneaking the last cookie out of the cookie jar and your mom (who is sitting in the other room reading a book or checking her e-mail, is clearly distracted and cannot hear your absolute stealthy maneuvers...although, her Super Sonic Hearing MAY OR MAY NOT come into play at this point...) yells over: "Honey, leave those cookies alone!" HOW COULD SHE KNOW THIS?!?!?!?!  Clearly, she looked over and used her X-ray vision to see through the wall.

There are many other super powers possessed by mothers, perhaps some day I will share them with you all.  But for now, I must return to my homework so that my mother does not nail me for avoiding school.

As you can see, that mothers possess super-powers is the only logical explanation to explain their prowess in life.

Are you a non-mother?? Well, girls, your time will come. Boys, SUCKS FOR YOU!!!!!!!

*ALL OF THIS INFORMATION IS 100% TRUE AND BACKED UP BY HIGHLY AUTHORIZED SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

Be good. Beware a mother's super-powers. Appreciate yo momma...give her awesome highness a hug today...she'll love it!

Peace Out,
Future Superhero

RA RA RA!!!

So pretty much, my older sister is this weird, spastic human being.

For example, when she is extremely hyper/angry/happy/speechless, she will do this weird thing where she'll suddenly start yelling,

"RA! RA! RA!"
(Fyi, the "r's" are rolled, for those of you who care!)

No one knows why, she's just odd in the head....which is of course why we love her oh-so-very much.

Today, is one of those "RA! RA! RA!" days for me.  Lemme 'splain:

If you:
a) Drink coffee
b) Get an adrenaline rush because you've been waiting FOR FOREVER (ok, 10 minutes? Maybe? Max?) for a phonecall
c) Are going to see Les Miserables PROFESSIONALLY DONE ON STAGE for the first time EVER  on stage
d) Have spring fever

Welllll then, YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT IN THE WORLD TO HAVE A "RAAAA!!!" day! I approve it.

Be good. Enjoy the "RA!" days as they come. NEVER SAY NEVER.

Peace Out,
Hyper-Spastic And Loving It :D

School: In Ke$ha's Words

"Maybe I need some rehab,
Or maybe just need some sleep
I've got a sick obsession,
I'm seeing it in my dreams
I'm making those desperate calls
I'm staying up all night hoping,
Hit my head against the walls"

Some of you may read those lyrics and go, "Whaaaa--? How is Ke$ha relevant to school?" and some may worry that I actually enjoy Ke$ha's music!
First, let me clarify....Ke$ha is an absolute freak.  She definitely should be in rehab, and no one knows why she's crushin' on Mick Jagger and dudes with beards. (<--No offense to guys with beards, of course.)

Now let me return to my original point.  While Ke$ha really is completely irrelevant to Linear Algebra, Calculus, Anatomy and Physiology, History and all of that nonsense...she may have hit on something...(other than the wall that is.)

"Maybe I need some rehab" --> After a full week of overwhelming homework loads, I always feel slightly like maybe I should be locked up and receive some serious help.  Am I alone here??? I think not.
"Or maybe just need some sleep" --> What high school or college aged student is not in  major need of sleep?? I rarely get to bed before midnight and I know that there are those who frequently are required to pull all-nighters.
"I've got a sick obsession" --> At first you might be thinking, "Umm...no...not even close."  So you might not be obsessed with it, BUT, there's the slight obsession "work, Work, WORK! Get 'er done!" No? YES!
"I'm seeing it in my dreams" --> Actually this has happened before.  Not to me, you see, but it has happened to other students, ya understand.
"I'm making those desperate calls" --> Everyone has at least one friend who they call up desperately begging for help.  There are those who call their teachers, frantically pleading for mercy.  Desperation? I think YES!
"I'm staying up all night hoping" --> Yes, hoping that next week won't be so BAD! And this also ties back into the whole "need some sleep" line at the beginning.
"Hitting my head against the walls" --> I don't necessarily recommend this as it results in a throbbing head ache and you still are required to do your homework.  But this is something many students have been forced to resort to when things gets to be a little TOO much for the average teenager to handle.

And so you see, you no longer have to wonder what Ke$ha was REALLY singing about in that perverse and ridiculous song.  I know you are very thankful that I have taken the time out of my busy day to draw these connections and conclusions out for you...well, you're welcome.  Any time.

Be good. Hate on Ke$ha. And always do your homework...apparently it's worth it in the long run.

Peace Out,
School/Ke$ha Hata'

How To Have A Bad Day 101

I am here to share the secrets of 'how to have a bad day.'  You may THINK you know....but you have no idea.

1) Wake up early.
Preferably sometime between 6 and 7 AM....also make sure that you went to bed extremely late the night before.  That way, you are completely exhausted and even less able to handle awful happenstances.

2) Make sure it is winter outside.
This may not make any sense to you, dear reader, quite yet.  But continue reading so that you might fully understand.  Winter=5 degree weather, icy roads and is prime opportunity for car accidents and other such undesirable instances.

3) Have an extremely unproductive morning in terms of school.
This will cause tension in your life, it will also cause you to take a much needed break, which leads to my next point.

4) Leave the house.
Leave. Go out.  Do something in a place which is not your home.  Preferably some place surrounded by icy, dirt roads.

5) After procrastinating sufficiently, head home....OH! And get in a fender bender.

6) Make sure that the person driving in front of you is someone who is important to you.

7) Make sure the person driving in front of Important Person decides to slam on their brakes.

8) Make sure Important Person slams on their brakes and swerves out of way.

9) Make sure you slam on brakes, have no escape route as the two people in front of you are blocking the whole road.

10) Make sure ABS kicks in and makes it impossible to stop.

11) Make sure you go home and suffer from shock
To properly suffer from shock, hyperventilate and cry non-stop for approximately 2 hours.

12) Make sure you are a girl going through an emotionally trying period of time.

13) Attempt to do more school.

14) Become distraught.

15) Make sure your mother decides to host approximately 15 crazy little girls for an American Girl Doll group.

16) Make sure one of the few mothers present is the mother of the person you hit.

17) Make sure you feel immensely guilty.
This requires the person you hit to go into shock as well so that you might feel especially guilty. Also make sure your father is completely understanding...that is the final blow.

18) Fall down the stairs.

19) Break your iPod.

20) Be a beautiful disaster/hot mess...whatever you decide to label yourself.

And this, my dear reader, is how, as a high school student, you are to suffer a bad day.  There are multiple levels of "Bad Day," this is a moderately bad day...so on a scale from 1-10 in terms of bad day?? This gets MAYBE a 6, more like a 5.  Eventually, once I meet someone unfortunate enough to suffer a 10, I will share their story so that you might be more appreciative of your minuscule issues.

Be good. Have bad days. Smile anyway.

Peace Out,
Beautiful Mess

A Football Family

Watching football with my family often times results in sore throats, bad language (or almost swearing....SHI-OOOOOOT!), and (quite frequently) injuries.

Once, while watching UofM play OSU....my 9-year-old sister started bawling when a touchdown call was overturned.

Today, while watching Referees make @$^#%*&^$%#(*@&#(*^#(*$%*&^@# calls against the Lions as they take on the Green Bay Packers....my mother has had to frequently stuff her fist in her mouth and I have had to remove a hysterical 12-year-old from the room more times than I care to recollect....

At this moment, said 9-year-old is screaming and threatening violence, my mother and father are proclaiming the game "finished," the 12-year-old is yelling to the 9-year-old "GET ON YOUR KNEES AND PRAY!!!!!" while others let their discontent known...me?  I hold tightly to some thread of hope that we can utilize the last 1:10 left on the clock and end up with a win.

How often do you hear of a family with 7 girls and 1 boy (when the boy is 3 months old) being so intense about sports????? And you don't even want to KNOW what my family is like when they watch Hockey.

Now, I will leave and continue to watch this game and bite my nails and all that fun stuff.

Be good. Love football. And GO LIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peace Out,
Sports Fan
